Lakeith acted in the short and the director wanted him to reprise his role, but he was no longer acting and the director couldn't find him. The director went through a lot tracking him down and eventually convinced him to be in the film.

Despite winning major audience and jury awards at SXSW in 2013, it didn’t do much business at the box office. The film opened with a platform release, expanding to 75 theaters at its widest.
