In the late 1960s, General Vanier Secondary School was constructed at 155 Gibb Street. Decades later, in the mid 1990s, Vanier and Central amalgamated and retained the name Oshawa Central Collegiate.

Apr 9, 2023 · Vanier was originally built in 1955 with the boiler house and was modernized in 1968 and 1969. Supt. Laura Poloz agrees the project is long overdue. “We will be working closely with our counterparts in Alberta Education to collaborate on the current stage of a school modernization,” Poloz says.
The current school building was previously known as General Vanier Secondary School. After Vanier was merged with nearby Oshawa Central Collegiate Institute, the older "Central" name was retained.
