  1. 4. Fall colours in the Fraser Valley. The Fraser Valley has an abundance of places to see the finest fall colours. Campbell Valley Regional Park in Langley offers hiking trails winding through the natural beauty of serene, mossy wooded forests, wetlands and farmlands.

    • Vancouver. Easily accessible from downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park is a convenient (and spectacular) spot to get your foliage fix. Check out Tourism Vancouver’s roundup of places to see fall colours.
    • Victoria. Victoria is a great walking city, and you don’t have to go far to hit a park trail. Beacon Hill Park is a prime example. One Facebook fan advises driving to Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park, which is a popular spot for rowers.
    • Nelson. The city of Nelson is pretty relaxed any time of year, and in the fall it’s quieter still. Listen—that’s the sound of the leaves floating to the ground.
    • Highway 3. Road trip! Our Facebook fans say that Highway 3 is particularly colourful this time of year. This blog on the route from Calgary to Vancouver lays it all out.
    • Vernon. This charming city really comes alive during the fall season. Enjoy all the vibrant colours of autumn with several outdoor activities to take part in—like going for a stroll along one of the scenic trails, biking or getting in a few rounds of golf.
    • Smithers. Breathe in all that fresh mountain air and enjoy all the serene foliage to be found in this bustling little town. This place is as popular as ever for fishing and mountain biking during the off-season—so what are you waiting for?
    • Fernie. This quaint town is the perfect place to enjoy the best of the Canadian Rockies without as many crowds of people around, especially during the cooler months.
    • Osoyoos. Taking off to the desert may only seem like a good idea during the summer months—but fall is actually a great time to explore Osoyoos. Take in all the incredible sights during the crisp autumn months, while taking advantage of the variety of wineries to explore in the region.

    • Stanley Park. First off, we’ll start close to home. Everyone’s favourite inner-city park has some seriously wonderful fall colours to offer us. And it’s also just a great place to get out of the house and explore.
    • Van Dusen Botanical Gardens. Here’s another spot that will give you nice fall vibes while also remaining in the city. Van Dusen is fun to visit year-round but to their unique and diverse plant species, there’s always something new to see no matter what time of year you go in.
    • Pacific Spirit Park. If you happen to go to UBC you’re probably pretty familiar with this park. But that being said, it’s absolutely worth visiting even if you don’t get out to the west side much.
    • Queen Elizabeth Park. And how could we forget the beautiful lookout at the top of Queen Elizabeth Park? If you’re heading to Bloedel Conservatory or just up to the park be sure to look out at the city.
    • Campbell Valley Regional Park – Langley, BC. Located in south Langley, Campbell Valley Regional Park is home to abundant trails, ponds, bridges, marshes, meadows and stunning fall foliage.
    • Green Timbers Urban Forest – Surrey, BC. Enjoy the gorgeous fall colours from Green Timbers Urban Forest’s network of nature trails, each of which traverses the area’s scenic second-growth forest.
    • Kootenay Lake Region – Nelson, BC. Whether you’re kayaking, paddleboarding or hanging out on the dock, autumn is a lovely time to be out on the lake. Just remember to take in those wonderful autumn colours while you’re there!
    • VanDusen Botanical Gardens – Vancouver, BC. You’ve got to take a walk through VanDusen Botanical Gardens in the autumn. In addition to traditional fall leaves, each of the themed gardens showcases how the changing seasons can affect various other species of trees and plants.

  4. 5. UBC Botanical Gardens. Head out to the UBC Botanical Gardens to find outstanding fall colours in the Carolinian Forest Garden. The maples, sumacs, oaks, tupelos, sweetgums and sourwoods provide a spectacular rainbow of hues. A sourwood tree produces striking fall colours in Vancouver. This was my favourite tree.
