Jun 10, 2024 · As the home of the Ohio State University, it’s no surprise that over 46,000 students live in Columbus each year. Due to the large student population and OSU’s substantial presence, Columbus offers many areas for OSU students to live on or near campus.
A lot of grad students live south or west of campus around the Victorian village, grandview heights, or upper Arlington areas. There are a lot of good options and I would say these are safer areas compared to other parts of campus. I lived in a house full of grad students in the Necko area southwest of campus for three years until last August.
Don't live past 4th street, but anywhere between High, Summit, 11th, and Lane is a good place to live. Check out the CABS routes (OSU's student bus service). Anywhere along those routes and you will get free bus service to and from campus. There are basically 3 off-campus housing areas (North, South, and East).

The University District is the area directly surrounding the Ohio State campus. This area is considered to be within walking distance to campus. A large population of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as a smaller population of long term residents, live in this area.
