Oct 30, 2023 · 1/4. Synonyms: Triangle of Koch, Tendon of valve of inferior vena cava. The atrioventricular node is an oblique, oval-shaped collection of cells located in the wall of the posteroinferior region of the interatrial septum, close to the coronary sinus. It lies within the triangle of atrioventricular node (or Koch’s triangle), which is the area ...

The AV node is a tiny "button" of specialized cells (roughly 3 by 5 millimeters in diameter) located near the center of the heart. It is on the right side of the atrial septum at the junction of the atria and the ventricles. Its job is to help coordinate the contraction of the atria and the ventricles in response to the heart’s electrical signal.
The AV node controls the passage of the heart’s electrical signal from the atria to the ventricles. After an electrical impulse is generated by the sinus node(located at the top of the right atrium), it spreads across both atria, causing these chambers to beat. The AV node then "gathers" that electrical impulse and, after a brief delay, allows it t...
Without this brief delay in the electrical impulse, the atria would not be able to finish beating—allowing the ventricles to completely fill with blood—before the ventricles themselves begin to beat. Unlike other parts of the heart’s electrical system, the more frequently the AV node is stimulated by electrical impulses, the slower it conducts elec...
The AV node is a very important part of the heart’s electrical system. It transmits the heart’s electrical signal from the atrium to the ventricle, optimizes the coordination of each heartbeat, and, if atrial fibrillation occurs, protects the ventricles from being bombarded with a dangerous number of electrical signals. Disorders of the AV node can...
The blood supply of the AV node is from the atrioventricular nodal branch. The origin of this artery is most commonly (80–90% of hearts) a branch of the right coronary artery, with the remainder originating from the left circumflex artery. [4] [5] [6] This is associated with the dominance of the coronary artery circulation.
Jul 25, 2023 · The atrioventricular (AV) node is a small structure in the heart, located in the Koch triangle,[1] near the coronary sinus on the interatrial septum. In a right-dominant heart, the atrioventricular node is supplied by the right coronary artery. The purpose of this structure is to connect the electrical systems of the atria and the ventricles, providing electrical impedance from the atria and ...

Cardiology 1 / CHAPTER 2. In most patients, the sinoatrial (SA) and atrioventricular (AV) nodes are supplied by the _____ coronary artery. The SA node receives its blood supply from the SA node artery that runs lengthwise through the center of the node. The SA node artery originates from the right coronary artery in about 60% of people.
The AV node receives its blood supply from a branch of either the right coronary artery (85–90%) or the left circumflex (10–15%). The AV bundle, or His bundle, emerges from the compact AV node and penetrates the membranous ventricular septum to give rise to the infranodal conduction system (18) .

May 10, 2020 · The cardiac conduction system involves the spread of electrical activity from the sinoatrial node, to the atrioventricular node, down the bundle of His and along the Purkinje fibres. As the electrical activity spreads along the heart’s conduction system it initiates myocardial contraction in the surrounding myocardial tissue. Cardiac ...
