Kaohsiung is a major international port and industrial city in the southwest of Taiwan. As an exporting center, Kaohsiung serves the agricultural interior of southern Taiwan, as well as the mountains of the southeast.
Kaohsiung is located by the southern bay of Taiwan and neighbors Tainan and Pingtung. It is Taiwan’s second largest city, and is only 1.5 hours from Taipei by High Speed Rail. Kaohsiung has the most beautiful harbor view, and is full of surprises with its city charm and ecological culture.

Gushan and Yancheng are two waterside districts in central Kaohsiung city, facing Qijin island and the Kaohsiung Port. The two small districts are home to several of my favorite things to do in Kaohsiung, and thus are my favorite areas to stay when visiting Kaohsiung.

Aug 24, 2018 · If the town of Gangshan (岡山) in Kaohsiung is known for anything, it’s the Republic of China Air Force Academy and goat-meat restaurants. Founded in China in 1928, the academy has since 1949 been located in Gangshan, which is roughly equidistant between central Tainan and central Kaohsiung.

Jul 13, 2016 · Regardless of what you choose to do, once you’re ready, hop on the MRT (RED line) towards Gangshan South and stop off at the Ecological District. From here, it’s a 15 minute walk to the Lotus Pond, another must see location in Kaohsiung.

Jan 5, 2023 · Gangshan is a suburban district north/northeast of Kaohsiung’s city center. It is primarily flat, with a central mountains foothills section in the east. The flat area, which straddles the north-south National Freeway 1 and Provincial Highway 1, is heavily populated and is home to a concentration of light industry.
