He is the widower of the late Maureen Cox Tigrett (formerly Starkey), the ex-wife of Beatle drummer Ringo Starr. His wife died of leukemia in 1994.
Tigrett has been a student of Indian holy man, Sri Sathya Sai Baba, studying mystic Vedic concepts since 1974. After living the last 15 years in the multi-faith Indian ashram of Prashanti Nilayam, Tigrett returned to the USA in 2020 in preparation for a paper on Material & Spiritual World Experiences.
