Jun 16, 2017 · The mosaic was rediscovered in 1884 during the construction of a new Greek Orthodox church. In 1965-1966, the map was rediscovered and described by German archaeologists. All objects shown on the map are represented in Greek. The unknown artists probably made the map for the Christian community of Madaba, which was the bishop's seat at that time.
