Nov 26, 2012 · St. Francis Hospital comprised two-thirds of the building with Starling Medical College housed in the remainder. Starling Medical College (one of six predecessor schools to the OSU College of Medicine) was in operation from 1847 to 1907 and named in honor of Mr. Lyne Starling, who donated the land and $35,000 for the new building.
The hospital replaced St. Francis Hospital, also known as Starling Medical College. The hospital was designed by R. A. Sheldon of New York, with assistance from George Bellows Sr. [ 3 ] Grant Medical Center operated a 16-story building, Baldwin Tower, from 1968 to its demolition in 2004.

Starling Medical College was the forerunner of The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and St. Francis Hospital continued as a teaching hospital until it closed in 1955 and was later razed in 1957.
