John I of Castile (a region that was united with León from 1230) created Asturias a principality for his eldest son, Henry (later King Henry III), in 1388. The title “prince of Asturias” subsequently was held by the crown princes throughout the years of the Spanish monarchy.

It is located at 1913 Nebraska Avenue. Established in 1902, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 24, 1974. It was designed by Tampa architect M. Leo Elliott. On Asturian immigration, the "Asturian-American Migration Forum" states:

The Principado de Asturias is located in the North of Spain occupying a territory of 10.603 km2 which is home to 1.081.000 people. It is bordered to the West by Galicia, on the North by the Cantabrian Sea, on the East by Cantabria and to the South by the province of León.
