The Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa is home to one of the oldest and largest gold refineries in the Western Hemisphere. Constructed in 1936, this modern refinery was designed to purify gold for mines and central banks worldwide. Lord Grey and Lady Grey inaugurated the Canadian Mint on January 2, 1908.
