Abstract. Standardisation of knowledge has become a by-product of globalisation, and western-based models are often seen as the ultimate answer to expertise and development. In light of this, some professionals have debated the feasibility of employing cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with Muslim communities.
The Islamic Psychology line integrates traditional Islamic principles and psychology to develop an Islamically orientated-approach to psychotherapy. It aims to bridge modern psychology and Islamic principles to destigmatize mental health.

Muslims experience the lowest recovery rate from mental health difficulties across all religious groups. The aim of this research is to understand the barriers that prevent Muslims from accessing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the extent to which these may vary across country of residence.
This research project collected qualitative data from three focus groups with 13 self-identified Muslim women as well as one-on-one interviews with 10 mental health professionals who have provided mental health supports and services to Muslim women in the past.
