I have thoroughly compared the Angled Alcantara (AA) pads to the Elite Hybrid (EH) pads, Stock Leather (SL), and Stock Alcantara (SA) pads in-store and through several listening sessions at home with my own setup. Jan 16, 2024 · In essence I wanted the best of both worlds, depending on the material I was listening to, be it an analogue or digital source and the genre. The Empyrean IIs are large headphones, without any noise cancellation, and clearly intended for indoor use and serious listening.
Jul 18, 2023 · Would I benefit from the angled Alcantara ear pads? Impossible to say I think, after all we all hear differently. In my case, I actually prefer the Empyrean to the Elite. (I tried both, amongst many other options, and bought the Empyrean) Still interesting though, I shall investigate further.

Apr 22, 2024 · There is a choice of earpads in the box: one is called the Duo and combines leather and Alcantara while the other, covered in just Alcantara, is more angled in shape to create more space around the ear. Each gives the Empyrean II a slightly different balance.
