- Mario Kart 8. It's remarkable just how well Mario Kart 8 has held up after more than five years of being released. The game feels like it took everything from the previous entries, including the customization, gliding mechanics, and unique tracks, and improved on everything in a way that makes each circuit so much fun to play, especially against a few buddies.
- Burnout Paradise Remastered. Another remaster of a classic racing game that has amassed somewhat of a cult following over the years, there isn't much of anything bad to say about Burnout Paradise Remastered.
- Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit has already earned its title as one of the most iconic arcade racers in gaming history, so all the remaster had to do was give it a fresh coat of paint to make this well-known gem even better than it already was.
- Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. This faithful remaster of the fan-favorite Crash Team Racing was received extremely well by fans and critics upon its release, primarily because of how well the game retained that chaotic nature of the original and memorable characters while still adding plenty of new features to keep the experience fresh.

In true Forza fashion, Saber Interactive nails that solid balance between arcade-style action and simulation depth with this off-road romp. Plowing its way onto Switch in mid-2021, the game fills a needed void in the library with its dynamic, rewarding driving-centric gameplay. Snowrunner makes the seemingly mundane task of cargo deliveries about a...
The addition of the Hot Wheels theme by way of a Forza Horizon 3 expansion and FH4 Car Pack left many collectors and younger gamers alike craving a full-fledged title centered around the brand. Joining just a small list of (mostly obscure) releasesis this 2021 racing game by Milestone. Unleashed embraces Hot Wheels' charming slot car qualities with...
When it comes to driving games that emphasize competitive showdowns, Rocket League should prove a draw for fans of Playground Games' hit, despite their stark differences in many avenues. Psyonix's vehicular soccer game has helped pave the way for a new style of multiplayer sporting romps, becoming a go-to for social gaming, online battles, and espo...
While critiqued for being a bit rough around the edges, Horizon multiplayer fans may want to give this one a look for its unique vehicular combat gameplay — as well as its budget price. Described as a deeper, off-the-wall take on the motorcycle racer Road Rash, this EQ-Games romps blends racing and melee combat in an amusing way. Further adding to ...
This fast-paced retro racer proves a great fit on the Switch, with its blend of familiar gameplay and unique elements that include a deep story mode and solid twin-stick controls. While the off-kilter controls take some getting used to, this learning curve is fairly easily navigated and overcome. This twin-stick method enables ample drifting which ...
Despite sharing a word in their titles, this modern homage to NES racers isn't exactly comparable to the sleeker, more dynamic Forza Horizon. But like Playground Games' hit, Horizon Chase Turbo sufficiently scratches that frenzied arcade-style itch for racing fans. While this effort takes a very different route, both titles harken back to those adr...
With this 2018 game, Canadian studio Caged Element takes the concept of an arcade racer and flips it on its head—quite literally. Grip: Combat Racing brings ample thrills with its unique blend of futuristic racer, rally driver, and combat game. Players control double-sided automobiles that can flip on the fly, enabling driving on their top and bott...
Horizon Chase Turbo helped blaze a trail for the retro racing renaissance—and SUMO and Lucky Mountain Games were happy to follow in their path with 2020's Hotshot Racing. Fast, twitchy mechanics and delightful late-80s polygons are similarly front and center in this old-school racing nod. With the said, this game also veers into its own lane with d...
With its fast-paced action—along with a diversity of cars, environments, and driving conditions, Kylotonn's V-Rally 4 captures at least some of the FH essence. RELATED: The Best Racing Games You Can Play On The Xbox One (According To Metacritic) While its multiplayer brings ample excitement, its more tepid career mode may not blow the hair back of ...
With Forza Horizon, Playground Games drives home the point that off-roading can be just as thrilling as street races— and sometimes even moreso. Studio Saber3D similarly taps into that drive to venture off the beaten path with this rocky ride. MudRunner has players trucking it across open-world locales in all-terrain vehicles to knock out objective...

- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch) Let's get the most obvious and essential Switch racing game out of the way first. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe delivers a huge amount of racing goodness right out of the box, and it's a polished version of a Wii U entry that was only a proper Battle Mode away from being top of class.
- Fast RMX (Switch eShop) FAST RMX is as good as the Wii U original and then some. Updated visuals, more tracks, more vehicles; it was an utterly outstanding launch title for the Switch and it holds up very well to this day, keeping the futuristic high-speed racing game alive in the absence of F-Zero.
- Hotshot Racing (Switch eShop) If the look of Hotshot Racing appeals to you and you can appreciate the aesthetic delights of something that looks deliberately low-fi and polygonal, the action it offers on the track does an excellent job of backing up the game's style with substance.
- SEGA AGES Out Run (Switch eShop) This is about as essential a retro release as you can get. An inspiration for the excellent Horizon Chase Turbo further down the page (although the Top Gear games are arguably a bigger influence there), Out Run may lack modern spit polish but it has always been an infinitely playable game, and the new unlockables and online rankings only increase its longevity further.
