Laureline is a main character of the Valerian and Laureline franchise.
Her name was invented to sound "medieval" and "soft."
Laureline is a peasant girl from eleventh-century France. She finds Valerian trapped in a giant leaf and cuts him free. She accidentally discovers he is a time-traveler, so he brings her back to Galaxity, where she is trained to be a spatiotemporal agent and assigned to be his partner.
She initially lets Valerian be the hero, but when separated for a period, she rises to the occasion. She eventually rebels against Galaxity, siding with the native Alflololians, and becomes the star of one adventure when Valerian is kidnapped.
Not wanting Laureline to worry, he took shady space smuggling jobs to pay for the naval upkeep. One job involved delivering a Schniarfer from cut-rate weapons dealers to Blopik, a low-tech war-torn planet. Laureline disapproved, and Valérian soon came to agree that it all stunk.
Time Agent cadet Valerian breaks the cardinal rule of time traveling by rescuing a beautiful dancer, Laureline, from the Early Middle Ages and taking her back with him to the year 2416. Upon arrival, however, he realizes the consequences of his actions: the Earth is missing.
