Spanish pianist and composer best known for his piano works based on folk music idioms. Many of his pieces such as Asturias (Leyenda), Granada, Sevilla, Cádiz, Córdoba, Cataluña, and the Tango in D are amongst the most important pieces for classical guitar.
“Asturias”, also given the name “Leyenda”, is the prelude to a three-movement suite written for the piano by Isaac Albéniz. Arranged most famously for guitar by the virtuoso Andrés Segovia, “Asturias” has become an essential work in the classical guitar tradition.
