  1. Aug 6, 2023 · The NFL’s 11 best linebackers The NFL’s 11 best slot defenders The NFL’s 11 best cornerbacks The NFL’s 11 best safeties. And now, without further ado, here are the 11 best slot receivers in the NFL as we head into the 2023 season. (All advanced metrics courtesy of Pro Football Focus and Sports Info Solutions unless otherwise indicated).

    • Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs. Defending Hill anywhere on the field has been a royal pain in the posterior for opposing defenders since Hill came into the league in 2016, but he’s especially dangerous as a slot receiver, and just about uncoverable when the Chiefs place him as the inside slot man to the dominant side of the field and run tight end Travis Kelce as the Y-iso receiver to the other side.
    • Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Chargers. Allen has been one of the NFL’s more underrated receivers since the Chargers selected him in the third round of the 2013 draft out of Cal.
    • Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks. In 2018, Lockett became the first NFL receiver we’re aware of to present a perfect passer rating to his quarterback when targeted.
    • JuJu Smith-Schuster, Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers went with a short passing game through most of the 2020 season whether they wanted to or not. That benefited Smith-Schuster as a slot receiver, as his numbers in that position went way up in 2020 — he caught 25 of 38 slot targets for 316 yards and two touchdowns in 2019, and saw that shoot up to 39 slot receptions on 119 targets for 888 yards and 10 touchdowns.
    • Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams. Last season, no other slot receiver approached Kupp’s volume and value. He caught 117 of 144 slot targets for 1,680 yards, and 12 touchdowns — all by far the most in the NFL in 2021.
    • Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins. Now that the Chiefs have moved on from Hill, they’ll have to put together a different kind of offense. Because there aren’t other receivers — not even other speed receivers — who can do what Hill does to defenses.
    • Davante Adams, Las Vegas Raiders. Adams is the NFL’s best receiver — of that, there is little doubt. He’s a unique threat on the outside, but he’s also a real weapon from the slot.
    • Tyler Boyd, Cincinnati Bengals. While Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are the Bengals’ No. 1 and No. 2 receivers, respectively, you can’t run as many 3×1 formations as Cincinnati would prefer without a top-tier slot weapon, and that’s exactly what Boyd was last season.

  4. Jun 2, 2023 · Cooper Kupp: Although it was cut short due to injury, Kupp's 2.40 yards per route run figure was the second-highest mark of his career. Amon-Ra St. Brown: Among the talented wideouts on this list, St. Brown had the highest receiving grade with a 90.4. CeeDee Lamb: Lamb recorded 972 yards in the slot, which led all receivers in the league.
