Under the new network, the hospital was officially known as Rouge Valley Centenary. On December 1, 2016, the Rouge Valley Health System dissolved as the campuses of The Scarborough Hospital (General and Birchmount ) and Rouge Valley Centenary merged to form a new administration, tentatively as the Scarborough and Rouge Hospital, [ 1 ] and later the Scarborough Health Network in 2018. Dec 26, 2017 · A previous merger attempt between the Scarborough Hospital (Birchmount, General) and the Rouge Valley Health System (Centenary, RVHS Ajax) failed in 2014. After listening to an expert panel, Ontario Health Minister Dr. Eric Hoskins backed its recommendations and ordered the three Scarborough sites to merge by Dec. 1, 2016.

After a year-long process of robust analysis and community engagement, on March 15, 2014: RVHS’ Board unanimously reaffirmed its support that a merger with The Scarborough. Hospital (TSH) should proceed for the benefit of the community. RVHS doctors and management were also strongly in favour; The TSH Board unanimously decided against proceeding.
