The SX-28 receiver remains a popular choice among collectors and vintage radio enthusiasts. The SX-88 and SX-115 are other popular Hallicrafters shortwave radio receivers that popularized this brand.

The Hallicrafters Company manufactured, marketed, and sold radio equipment, and to a lesser extent televisions and phonographs, beginning in 1932. The company was founded by William J. Halligan and based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. In 1966 Halligan sold the company to the Northrop Corporation and Halligan family involvement ended.
The Hallicrafters plant became Northrop Corporation's Defense Systems Division in the mid 1970's. Since around 1988, the remaining assets and rights to the 'Hallicrafters' name & logos have been held by court-appointed trustees. No rigs bearing the Hallicrafters logo have been build since 1975. 540 kHz - 44 MHz in 4 bands.

The Hallicrafters Company of Chicago, Illinois was once one of the major "Big Three" manufacturers of shortwave and Amateur Radio equipment (the National Radio Company and Hammarlund being the others). From the early 1930s through the 1970s, the Hallicrafters name stood for some of the finest communications equipment available.
