As the organizer of the 15th World Congress of Music Therapy (WCMT) of the World Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT), I am honored to announce that the 2017 congress will be held in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan from July 4 - 8.
Just over 40 years ago, music therapists from around the world gathered in together and began formulating plan to organize as a profession internationally and to support the development of music therapy on a global level.
The theme of this three-day conference was “The Identity of Music Therapy – Its Professionality and Generality.” Though it was held in Sapporo, Hokkaido, which is in the far north of Japan, we had a large number of attendees.Many of the attendees participated in the pre-conference seminars on September 11th.
In the opening ceremony, we were introduced to traditional Japanese music – “Baren-Daiko” and “Sanbaso.” It was a wonderful experience listening to traditional Japanese music for the first time.
