In March 2006, MGM announced that it would return again as a domestic distribution company. Striking distribution deals with The Weinstein Company (TWC), Lakeshore Entertainment , Bauer Martinez Entertainment, and other independent studios, MGM distributed films from these companies.
On December 4, 2020, the company started using 20th Century Studios, Inc. for the copyright of films and television productions as a Disney subsidiary. On April 7, 2021, Blue Sky Studios (20th Century's longtime animation unit) was shut down, and its assets are now owned by Disney.
