Today we will discuss about the coins of Bengal Sultanate. The coins issued by the Bengal Sultanate were lasted for almost 350 years, when it was replaced by rupee.
The East India Company established its first factory in the Bengal region in 1633. Several factories were established in Orissa, Bengal and Bihar, and initial;ly they were all administered from Madras. In 1698, the Company received rights over Calcutta, a fort was constructed there (Fort William), and in 1715 the Bengal Presidency was created.
The company continued its administrative functions until the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859), a widespread revolt that began with the Indian soldiers in the company’s Bengal army. In 1858, by the Act for the Better Government of India, the Crown assumed all governmental responsibilities held by the company, and its 24,000-man military force was incorporated into the British army.
