Later, he fought in the Battle of Vimy Ridge in April 1917. Major Stafford at the age of 40 was wounded by a German shell on June 23, 1917 and died the following day. His final resting place is in the Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery at Pas de Calais not far from Vimy.
