Apr 1, 2024 · Mary was a Jewish woman from the fishing town Magdala on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. Her name is mentioned 12 times in the Gospels, more than most of the apostles. Mark and Luke recorded the healing of demons from Mary’s life in their Gospel accounts.
Though not mentioned explicitly as a place that Jesus visited, Magdala was probably included in the references to Jesus’s travel to “nearby villages” (Mark 1:38-39; Luke 4:43; Matt 4:23), and “every village” (Luke 5:17).
