Dr. Emily Stowe (1831-1903) was the first female doctor to practice in Ontario. Dr. Emily Howard Jennings Stowe was born in Norwich Township, Oxford County, Ontario. She was raised as a Quaker. Dr. Stowe became a school teacher at the age of 15 at a schoolhouse in neighboring Summerville.
