Walter Thomas Varney (age 79) was born Dec. 26, 1888 in San Francisco, the son of Thomas and Ella Varney. Mr. Varney and his late wife, Aileen, who died in 1963, lived in San Francisco until 1957. He was a World War I Army Aviator.
Varney married Aileen Warren in San Francisco in 1910. Virginia, their only child, was born a year later. Some time in his youth, Varney came to admire those men who flew the clumsy early aircraft which had first been flown by the Wright brothers in 1903, when Varney was 15 years old.
