Solution: Choose any other playback device (from the speaker icon on the Windows Taskbar). Open Synapse->YourHeadphones->Mixer. In the Mixer window press grey "SET AS DEFAULT" button. TL;DR Set Synapse THX Spatial as default in the "Synapse"->"YourHeadphones"->"Mixer" window, NOT in the Windows Sound window. The latter doesn't work for me.

A future version of Synapse will come with an updated THX Spatial Audio surround calibrator, to allow users to customize their 7.1 audio by setting virtual speakers positions based on personal preferences.
What I have concluded: If you see the "Set THX Spatial Audio as default device" message in the bottom of the Mixer tab in Razer Synapse, and then click "Set Default" and if the message remains, the problem does NOT get fixed. Sometimes clicking the "Set Default" will remove the prompt and fix the issue, however this only worked for me one time.
