- The main reason is that subdivision adds verts. No matter how good your project, no matter how much time you're willing to spend on rendering, everyone has a limit. Each level of subdivision multiplies your face/vert count by 4. So three levels multiply it 64-fold, 4*4*4.

Each level of subdivision multiplies your face/vert count by 4. So three levels multiply it 64-fold, 4*4*4. Okay, but let's say you can spare a 64-fold vert increase.
3 days ago · Subdividing splits selected edges and faces by cutting them in half or more, adding new vertices, and subdividing accordingly the faces involved. It adds resolution to the mesh by divide faces or edges into smaller units.

2 days ago · The Subdivision Surface modifier (often shorten to “Subdiv”) is used to split the faces of a mesh into smaller faces, giving it a smooth appearance. It enables you to create complex smooth surfaces while modeling simple, low-vertex meshes.
Whenever I use it, it completely distorts my objects. If I don’t use it, my objects look a bit pixelated, but they look much much better than if I use the subdivision surface modifier. What is the point of this modifier and why is it so popular among youtubers?
Mar 2, 2024 · Blender’s Subdivide tool enhances mesh detail, allowing for creative freedom and precision. Use it wisely to avoid excessive vertices and ensure optimal model quality. Yet, a common challenge arises with the complexity that accompanies subdivision: managing the increased polygon count.
