Jul 16, 2015 · Once a pitcher is able to consistently throw strikes (not easy for most 9-year-olds!), it is time to work on the other aspects of location. Aiming for the low/outside corner is the next step. In many youth leagues, umpires expand the strike zone by an inch or two on the outer part of the plate, while most players have short arms and short bats and some hitters stand too far away from the plate.

For example, strength and power are developed through progressive overload over the course of meso- and macrocycles (i.e. weeks, months, years), not usually microcycles (daily, or by the week).
" Velocity comes from going fast and being on time and many youth pitchers try and "collect their mechanics" as they slowly go through their leg kick, drive, and delivery. The biggest issue with going slow is that it tends to break down (not enhance) mechanics. Youth pitchers should focus on the "GFF" principle: Go Forward Fast!

Mar 18, 2016 · The only reason you lose velocity out of the stretch is because you have spent more time developing your wind-up mechanics. There must be a 50/50 split between practicing both pitching motions. There are tons of MLB pitchers who strictly throw out of the stretch, and many of these pitchers throw above average velocity.
