I’ve caught myself go a whole day without stopping to read the scriptures. Don’t let this be you! Set timers to wake up early in the morning. Set alarms to remind you to read before bed. Whenever you feel you want to spend time in the Word, do it - but it helps to create habits. We are, after all, creatures of habit.
In this fast-paced world, it’s tempting (and unfortunately common) to read fast just to say we’ve done it. Resist! Take your time. Don’t just read the Bible. Study it. For more on how to study the Bible, check out this post here.
“Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.” Take time to memorize scripture. It will make it easier to resist temptation and help you discern what is good in your life.
Sure, you could keep some sticky notes on your bathroom mirror, but you could also try putting up framed verses on your walls to make it pretty. Display your favourite scriptures all over your home in sweet, attractive ways.
This is a fantastic thing to do, especially when you have a long commute. The Bible itself talks about the “hearing” of the Word, so I think this fits quite nicely. Sometimes you will hear something that you missed while reading, and when you go to read it later, it will be reinforced by what you heard. You can even find audio Bibles that are drama...
Don’t hide your light under a bushel! Share what you have learned with others! This not only spreads the Good News but also reinforces what you have already learned. I talked a little bit about this before, but pray through Scripture promises! The Bible is full of promises for us to claim. Once I became aware of this, I couldn’t stop seeing them every time I picked up the Bible! God has so much He wants to bless us with - all we need to do is humbly ask!
Aug 15, 2004 · Our minds are bent on not seeing God as infinitely more worthy of praise than we are, or the things we make or achieve. This is what we saw last week in Romans 1:28, “Since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind.”
- Journal the Word. If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know how much I love Bible journaling! If you have any creative bones in your body, or especially if you’re a visual learner, journaling is such a great way to go deeper in your study of Scripture.
- Verse Mapping. This is a very cool technique, which I covered in-depth in this post. Take a verse that you want to understand better. Write it out, and identify the key words in the passage that stand out to you.
- Pray the scriptures a.k.a. “lectio divina” It’s relatively simple…just pray as you read! Whether you pray before, as in “Lord help me grow in my knowledge of you”, or after, like “Heavenly Father, I’m not sure I understand this passage.
- Memorize Bible Verses. One of the best ways to truly saturate yourself with the Word of God, is to memorize key verses. The more Scriptures you have committed to memory, the more you’ll be able to draw on the comfort, wisdom, and guidance of God’s Word, no matter where you are.
Feb 24, 2019 · Psalm 16:11 says, “In Thy presence is fullness of joy.” God’s presence brings joy that is full, even overflowing. God’s joy and His other qualities overflow when we become saturated in Him. The word saturate means to permeate until no more can be received, to soak thoroughly. How do we get saturated with God?
How, then, can we saturate our minds with the Scriptures so the Holy Spirit can remind us of that Word in a time of temptation? Several years ago, I interviewed Barry C. Black for Ministry . 2 He shared a simple strategy for saturating his mind with God’s Word: on his commute to the United States Capitol, where he currently serves as chaplain ...
