Honestly, Graystripe was pretty terrible in the first series. He had a loveable personality, but was an atrocious warrior. He was given the honor of an apprentice, and basically pawned him off on Fireheart so he could be with Silverstream. Then, of course, he abandoned his Clan to be with his kits.
