Several Facebook groups I have been part of have been changing their privacy settings to secret. I have no clue why. This is clearly a voluntary action and not some automated Facebook thing as the notification names admins who initiated the action to change it to secret as well.
If the privacy level of a group changes, all members of the group receive a notification of the change. You can adjust your privacy settings by visiting settings in ">admin tools. The right privacy setting for your group may depend on the group’s subject matter, goals and culture.

Go to facebook.com/groups and select your group. Click Group settings in the left menu. You might have to click Manage first. Below Set up group, click next to Privacy. Select Private. Follow the prompts. Click Change privacy to confirm.
