Aug 14, 2019 · Today, we are updating the names of group privacy levels to public and private to make it easier for you and your members to understand. Admins will also see a new setting where you can control whether your group is visible or hidden from nonmembers in places like search.
Go to facebook.com/groups and select your group. Click Group settings in the left menu. You might have to click Manage first. Below Set up group, click next to Privacy. Select Private. Follow the prompts. Click Change privacy to confirm.
Several Facebook groups I have been part of have been changing their privacy settings to secret. I have no clue why. This is clearly a voluntary action and not some automated Facebook thing as the notification names admins who initiated the action to change it to secret as well.
