Jun 16, 2024 · 13. The Marine Room and Lounge. There is nothing like a fancy upscale restaurant by the beach to really take a vacation up a notch and this one is literally right by the water. The Marine Room is a stunning restaurant that offers a unique experience of having floor to ceiling windows where the waves crash onto.

There’s nearly a mile of beautiful beach starting north of La Jolla Cove and extending north until Black’s Beach with UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography in the middle. This provides sandy space, plenty of ocean for activities, and designated areas for bonfires, picnics + barbecues. Pro tip: If you’re stuck behind a screen, you can p...
Shore, you can lounge in the sand, but this beach is great for the active beachgoer. Wave hello to surfing, paddleboarding + kayaking, and feel free to have a volleyballin the sand — but you’ll need your own equipment. La Jolla Shores is also unique for activities you can’t find at other beaches: 1. Scuba diving + snorkeling are allowed, La Jolla U...
It’s not just the beach — this area of La Jolla is filled with hotels, shopping, and of course food (we love the Marine Room for fancy meals + ocean views). If you want to learn more about the ocean, Birch Aquarium at Scripps will let you take a deep dive.
Like other beaches, smoking, alcohol and camping are prohibited. There isn’t a dog beach here, so your furry friends will need to find their beaches in Coronado, Del Mar, or Ocean Beach. You can look at the marine life in the water, but don’t remove anything or go fishing.

- La Jolla Shores Beach. Why go: This is the best La Jolla beach for all-day sunbathing, family fun, and a wide range of water sports. In fact, it’s one of the best San Diego beaches, if not the best.
- La Jolla Cove Beach. Why go: It’s one of the best La Jolla beaches because of easy entry into the ecological reserve for snorkeling and diving, a nice though small strip of sand for sunbathing (which can get crowded in good weather), and the La Jolla sea lions who call this stretch of beach home.
- Children’s Pool Beach. Why go: To see the famous La Jolla seals and walk on the sea wall. Children’s Pool Beach, located close to downtown La Jolla and within walking distance from La Jolla Cove, is a small cove protected by a concrete breakwater seawall.
- Black’s Beach. Why go: To surf or enjoy some quiet (note that some people still go nude here) without the kids. Black’s Beach La Jolla is a secluded section of beach beneath the bluffs of Torrey Pines and is officially part of Torrey Pines State Beach.
Dec 15, 2021 · La Jolla might appear to be just another tired beach town, but don’t sleep on it. Like other destinations within San Diego, it has a surprisingly lively atmosphere - and humans aren’t the only life of the party. Along the beaches of La Jolla are unique pockets of marine life, such as sea turtles, cormorants, sea lions, garibaldi, grey ...
Oct 27, 2024 · If the waves are calm, you can walk onto the sea wall (but it can be slippery, so I don’t recommend this for young children). Visiting Children’s Pool Beach is, by far, one of the most popular things to do in La Jolla and a personal favorite pastime of mine. 5. Hike Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve.
