In my opinion, manga is undeniably the better form of drawn fiction than comics despite its flaws for one simple reason: the continuity in comics is ATROCIOUS. Let's take a popular example: Superman. He died in the silver age of comics when he fought Doomsday. He revived. Multiple versions of him died died in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Superheroes and Shonen are 2 massive genres but both of them follow similar story structure and themes. Also these are visual mediums and comics are always gonna take it over manga just off the fact that comic books are released w fully finished full color artwork. Weekly manga releases and even monthly sometimes has terrible artwork.
The other thing I would mention is that Manga is much more tightly bound up with other media, as a popular series are expected to have an anime, light novel, video games and merchandise-also anime adaptations are often direct adaptations where from a stopping point you can read the next chapter of the manga, whereas hollywood usually takes a work and adapts it much more loosely.
