Meeting up with the Angry Earth again, you realise that bringing the box back to Aeternum is what caused the eruption at Shattered Mountain, and is why the Corruption started moving again. The Angry Earth stole it from Thorpe as soon as you landed, and hid it away from the Corruption.
EDIT: Players that purchased the New World base game but have not gotten the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion will need to purchase the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion to get access to all of the content in New World: Aeternum but will still have access to everything in the base game.
