The school was founded as a coeducational institution in 1877 by Helen Adelia Rowe Metcalf, who sought to increase the accessibility of design education to women. Today, RISD offers bachelor's and master's degree programs across 19 majors and enrolls approximately 2,000 undergraduate and 500 graduate students.
Today, the school has over 2000 students studying a range of art or design-related programs, some of the most popular being photography, painting, ceramics, printmaking and graphic and industrial design.
All I can say is that RISD is a pretty hard school to get into, so it would be good to decide on a particular interest now so you have enough time to research the school and collect your portfolio materials accordingly.
