The Empyrean is FAR from unrivaled in the clarity and detail department. That is actually considered their weakest point from my understanding (having never listened to them). As blue said, there are other headphones such as the HD 800/S that win out in this category at a much lower retail price.

I finally got to demo the Empyreans and Elites today (HIFIbuys Atlanta) along with a few other kilobuck and TOTL headphones such as the lcdx, Arya, and Focal Stellia - and after trying them out for around an hour or so, I’m kind of underwhelmed.
