The Holy Ghost conveys the gifts of the Spirit to the children of God (see 1 Corinthians 12:1–11; Moroni 10:9–17; D&C 46:13–26). The Holy Ghost brings to our remembrance truths that we have been taught earlier (see John 14:26). The Holy Ghost reproves the world for sin (see John 16:8; D&C 121:43).
Sep 30, 2023 · In Mormonism, the Holy Ghost is the Spirit of God, the divine Comforter. He’s not holy simply because he’s pure and sinless—that’s obvious by his membership in the holy Godhead alongside Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
According to Mormonism, the Holy Ghost is a child of God from the preexistence who does not have a body of flesh and bones, as do Heavenly Father and Jesus. He is the third member of the Godhead who is sometimes described as the Holy Spirit and other times described as distinct from the Holy Spirit. The Encyclopedia of Mormonism explains:
The Holy Ghost purifies our hearts so we no longer have the desire to do evil. There is a difference between the Holy Ghost and the gift of the Holy Ghost. In this chapter we will learn what the gift of the Holy Ghost is and how we can receive this great gift from God.
The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Eternal GODHEAD, and is identified also as the HOLY SPIRIT, Spirit of Goel, Spirit of the Lord, and the COMFORTER. All three members of the Godhead were manifested at Jesus' baptism (Mark 1:9-12; see also DOVE, SIGN OF).
