Oct 16, 2019 · Based on what I’ve read, to charge a car at a reasonable rate you usually want to use a 220/240-volt circuit (similar to that used for clothes dryers, electric ranges, and hot tubs). But to get an adequately fast charge, you also want reasonably high AMPERAGE (e.g., ~60 amps).

Sep 23, 2008 · You can see why ALL car manufacturers went to 12-volt and never returned to six. 12-volt works better, comes lots cheaper, and more options are available to you. It's YOUR car, and you need to decide what you intend to use it for.
\$\begingroup\$ That adaptor should work fine for your sign. since the voltage is being stepped down by a factor of 6:1, an ideal converter could give you the sign's spec'd 18V/2A from only 0.33A input...the difference in input amperages is just really a matter of efficiency.

Aug 6, 2018 · While you could hang an alternator off the traction motor to keep the 12 V battery topped up and supply the average power demanded by the 12 V system, a more efficient (if not necessarily more cost-effective) solution is a transformer-isolated DC-DC converter between the traction and 12 V batteries.
