Most programs that do supplemental applications are smaller like Health Science. The engineering department combining BTech, comp sci, and iBioMed is around 1600 each year, life science alone is over a thousand, not including the other 3 entry gateways into science at Mac, so the pool of applicants is huge relatively speaking.
First year will be your hardest year in university. The transition from 4 courses to 5 courses + trying to adjust to uni + figuring out how to study effectively + time management will lead you to sputter at times. That doesn't mean you can't get good grades though. Getting a high GPA in life sci is doable.

Students are required to take a Life Sciences seminar in Level IV. These courses are small (capacity 25 students), allowing students to work closely with the instructor.
