Lots of units have them, pay attention to how to maximize them. Having a cavalry or flying unit as leaders is a huge help for mobility, griffin knight once promoted has a 1ap valor skill that buffs everyone’s mobility. I usually deploy to 1 valor point and then use this.
In terms of team building, at first I didn't care at all my squads being natural pairings as I tend to obsess over optimising squads and gear in games like this, but over time I actually found a few team comps which are both effective and make sense in terms of character pairing.
Because you can see your match ups on the map and plan to engage accordingly, I think you are better off leaning into the strengths of a unit rather than trying to cover all the weaknesses. If you want a support unit on a watchtower, you want extra units of that type to maximize the support ability.
