The majority of metal bands aren't progressive at all (thinking of Sabaton, Lamb of God, and suchlike) because they stick to a simple song structure.

This album manages to bring the standard prog metal fusion that you look for in these types of bands, but there's also a lot of time given to the music to just breathe, to let a notion hang in the air for 2 or 3 minutes. The answer here is to do whatever makes you happy. If you just can't help but listen to new music there's nothing wrong with that. If you want to take a break and dig through some discographies there's nothing wrong with that. The only person judging you for it is yourself. Personally I flop between my classics and a steady diet of newer material.
