Welcome to Sheffield Park Black History and Cultural Museum! My name is Carolynn Wilson and I am the curator and co-owner of Sheffield Museum. This is where the history of early Black pioneers and settlers in Simcoe and Grey Counties is preserved, restored and experienced.
Feb 10, 2020 · Through their family history and their museum collection, the sisters contributed documents and evidence to help preserve and restore a black pioneer cemetery in Priceville - where members of the Sheffield were buried.
Jan 5, 2024 · Originally established in Collingwood, Sheffield Park was the vision and dream of the sisters’ late uncle Howard Sheffield who sought to gather, preserve, and share the history of their Black ancestors. Today the homespun museum sits on a generous plot of land in The Blue Mountains.
Feb 15, 2022 · The Sheffield Park Black History Museum was founded in 1990 by their uncle, Howard Sheffield, and is now operated by the two sisters. The museum has a host of artifacts which tell the story of Black people in Canada, and specifically the stories of local Black families. “The story needs to be told,” Sylvia said.
The Sheffield Park Black History and Cultural Museum curated and co-owned by Carolynn Wilson and Sylvia Wilson preserves the history of black pioneers and settlers of Collingwood and the surrounding area. This year, the Sheffield Park Black History and Cultural Museum will be celebrating 30 years of programming.
