Most evil overlord stories at least have a ace in the hole on the heroes side, such as a wise old master or a aging warrior that knows a secret technique, something that gives the evil overlord pause so that he knows that he can't just run willy nilly carelessly. But Overlord doesn't even have that. So what's the point?
So many ideas, characters, or plot lines (like the dragon kingdom) we won’t ever see or mentioned again because the series is going straight to the ending. The series can go on far longer and so for it to end so prematurely feels wasted and anticlimactic, for me at least.
I will say that it feels inconsistent that he will randomly work hard for the benefit of his subjects (going through their suggestions for making the kingdom a better place), showing that he cares about their happiness, then turns around and slaughters everyone for spurious strategic value.
