  1. Atari was massively popular. The 2600 was sold from 1977 to 1992. It has the longest lifespan of any console. It also sold over 30 million units worldwide, making it the 10th most successful console in history. It outsold the original Xbox and the N64. Pong isn't really an Atari 2600 game.

  2. Not even close. 2600 Pac-Man isn't nearly as bad of a game in its own right as it is a port of Pac-Man. If the same game had been released with different characters and a different name it wouldn't be anywhere near the top of anyone's list of bad games.

  3. We simply had no idea at the time because some of them seemed good because they weren't as bad as others. This has nothing to do with graphics - just poor game design or poor attempts to convert true arcade games to a console which could not replicate the gameplay.

  4. Aug 20, 2020 · Posted August 20, 2020. Thank-you for sharing these, @Marco. My favourite has to be Atlantis -- with the game title added almost as an afterthought and cover art ripped directly from the Atari catalogue. The Taiwanese flag in the astronaut's hand is a subtle addition.

  5. Nov 15, 2023 · If you already own a bunch of Atari 2600 cartridges from long ago, there’s an odd sense of magic in seeing these games suddenly working again on modern hardware. We say “pretty much” all of them worked, but one (River Raid) failed to load.
