Atari was massively popular. The 2600 was sold from 1977 to 1992. It has the longest lifespan of any console. It also sold over 30 million units worldwide, making it the 10th most successful console in history. It outsold the original Xbox and the N64. Pong isn't really an Atari 2600 game.
Not even close. 2600 Pac-Man isn't nearly as bad of a game in its own right as it is a port of Pac-Man. If the same game had been released with different characters and a different name it wouldn't be anywhere near the top of anyone's list of bad games.

We simply had no idea at the time because some of them seemed good because they weren't as bad as others. This has nothing to do with graphics - just poor game design or poor attempts to convert true arcade games to a console which could not replicate the gameplay.

Nov 15, 2023 · The Atari 2600+ is a surprisingly faithful recreation of the original 2600 hardware, but therein lies both its strengths and weaknesses. If all you want is a new box to play your old games on a modern TV, this is absolutely the solution, but if you're looking for something like a SNES Mini designed to introduce you to Atari, get Atari 50 instead.
