The graphics sucked compared to the arcade games but it was the best we could have at home, without having to put a quarter in for each play. Arcade games at the time weren't very complex either. The Atari could generally duplicate the game mechanics of many games even if they looked like poor copies. Games on the Atari also did innovate.
So I'm sure a lot of you that are actually bothering to read this will remember I made a NES emulator and posted some screenshots the other day. I've now started on an Atari 2600 emulator, which will be fully open sourced upon completion, and hopefully will actually be playable.
2600 Pac-Man isn't nearly as bad of a game in its own right as it is a port of Pac-Man. If the same game had been released with different characters and a different name it wouldn't be anywhere near the top of anyone's list of bad games. It's not great, but it's definitely playable, which is more than can be said about an awful lot of 2600 games

Nov 22, 2023 · I only have one Melody board homebrew and about 20 ways to play it, so I'm not overly concerned that the 2600+ doesn't work with these. 2600 homebrew that isn't chip assisted works fine. I'm looking forward to seeing how Plaion/Atari respond to early feedback and I'm hopeful that the promised firmware update addresses 7800 homebrew and specialty controller compatability.
