This is because the two networks have started to merge and Virgin have moved over to using O2’s network to provide 5G/4G/3G/2G signal. For calls and texts, this is good news. You'll be accessing the joint-best network for the amount of the UK's physical geography they've got covered.

You can check Virgin Mobile’s coverage using its online coverage tool. This will ask you first whether you’re already a customer or whether you’re planning to buy a phone or a SIM card, then you can enter a location to get a picture of Virgin’s coverage there. This will show you the 4G, 3G, and 2G coverage as well as 5G.
If you’re not in a 5G coverage area then you’ll be using 4G or 3G, and Virgin Mobile relies on O2 for that too. The company is in the confusing position of having recently switched from using Vodafone, and before that EE, but at this point all plans should be using O2’s coverage.

At the minute, they appear to be switching all Virgin Mobile customers over to O2, which has left users a bit worried about the future of their services and what to expect with this merger.
