Jan 1, 2022 · Friday, March 30, 1973. CREATING MAJOR EXCITEMENT ON the movie scene recently has been the arrival of two new films, in each case the maiden theatrical feature of a Canadian director. One, the work of Albertan Bill Fruet, was the 1972 Canadian Film Award-winning Wedding in White.
Fruet then began to focus more on his writing and met with great success, becoming a prominent screenwriter on the English-Canadian film scene in the early seventies. His script for Goin’ Down the Road (1970), directed by Shebib, won the Canadian Film Award for Best Screenplay, and the film itself has been named one of Canada’s Top Ten Films for two decades running.
